Back in the 2000s, Eenie Meanie would’ve been that random mid-budget action movie dumped in late summer, hoping fast cars and a good-looking cast could compete with Fast & Furious. Now it lands on Disney+ which honestly feels like the right place.

The setup is familiar: Samara Weaving is a former getaway driver pulled back into crime by her disaster of an ex (Karl Glusman). Old boss Andy Garcia shows up. The problem is the script. It tries for banter but mostly lands on swearing instead of jokes and the romance angle makes zero sense. Edie risking everything for her trainwreck ex just doesn’t make sense.

Weaving has carried better movies before (Ready or Not, The Babysitter), but here she’s stuck with a weird accent and not much character. She still looks cool behind the wheel and that’s when the film actually works. Simmons clearly knows how to stage a chase, those scenes are fun. For a few minutes at a time, you can almost forget how thin the rest of it is.

It’s the kind of movie you’ll stream once, enjoy the car chases and never think about again.
