Comedies are almost always treated like the lightweight genre. They rarely get Oscars attention, rarely dominate serious year end conversations, and are often dismissed as disposable entertainment. That is a mistake. Making people laugh is hard. Making them laugh while saying something honest about life, friendship, failure, or love is even harder.

This year, comedy did exactly that. From absurd studio silliness to small, character driven gems, these films reminded me why laughter matters just as much as drama.

So here is my personal celebration of the genre. My favourite comedies of the year, ranked from best to absolute bestest!

15. Siko Siko
Best Egyptian comedy of the year. Crowd pleasing and confidently funny.

14. One Battle After Another
Not a comedy per se, but packed with catchy, hilarious lines that linger.

13. Oh Hi
Awkward humor done right. Small, strange, and disarmingly funny.

12. Adult Best Friends
Relatable friendship comedy with sharp observations and warmth.

11. Deep Cover
Deadpan laughs and genre playfulness that sneak up on you.

10. I Swear
A tragedy and a biography, yes, but also a hilarious black comedy. I laughed out loud many times.

9. Nonnas
Comfort comedy with genuine laughs and heart.

8. The Ballad of Wallis Island
Offbeat, gentle, and quietly funny in its own rhythm.

7. The Baltimorons
Funny and full of heart. The kind of comedy that grows on you.

6. Friendship
Smart, character driven humour that understands human messiness. Tim Robinson is a genius.

5. The Parenting
Underrated, hilarious gem. Amazing Cast. Watch it!

4. Splitville
Sharp writing and strong comedic timing throughout.

3. The Naked Gun
Pure silliness done with confidence. Old school laughs that still work.

2. Good Fortune
Big laughs with a surprisingly thoughtful core.

1. One of Them Days
The funniest of the year. Effortless, sharp, and endlessly rewatchable.

I do not remember every plot detail, but I remember how these films made me feel. I remember laughing! These comedies stayed with me not because they were perfect, but because they felt honest. They understood how strange, awkward, and overwhelming life can be, and they met it with humour instead of judgment. That is why they matter to me. Long after the lists and rankings fade, these are the films I will come back to, when I need a laugh!
