So I watched Murderbot on Apple TV+ and here’s my honest take on it. First thing: it’s fine. Not mind-blowing, which sometimes is all you need, right?

The show kicks off really well. The first episodes had me smiling a lot. Murderbot itself is such a fun character, this sarcastic robot that just wants to be left alone to binge soap operas but keeps getting dragged into saving humans who don’t know what they’re doing. The humor in those early episodes is sharp and the pacing feels tight. I thought “wow, this might be one of those hidden gem sci-fi shows.”

But then, a few episodes in, things slowed down. Like really slowed down. Some episodes in the middle felt like filler, or maybe they just didn’t know how to keep up the energy of the pilot. I wouldn’t call them bad exactly, but they were definitely dull compared to how the season started. I found myself zoning out and checking my phone during parts of them, which is usually my sign that a show lost me a little.

Still, even with the uneven pacing, the humor never completely disappeared. Murderbot’s dry commentary on humans always made me laugh and I think that’s the real reason to watch the show. The sci-fi setting is cool too, there’s tech and danger and all that, but it’s not super confusing or overwhelming. They kept it simple enough for casual viewers like me to follow without needing a degree in space engineering.

Some people might hype it up more than it deserves, but for me, it’s the kind of show you put on when you want something that’s easy to watch, with occasional funny bits, and a character you can root for in spite of (or because of) how much they hate everything.

Will I watch Season 2? Yeah, for sure. Even though Season 1 had some dull stretches, I still enjoyed enough of it to be curious about where the story goes. Plus, once you spend a season with a character like Murderbot, you kinda want to stick around just to hear more of its grumpy inner monologue. I’m hoping Season 2 takes the strong parts of Season 1 (the humor, the pacing, the sarcasm) and keeps that energy going instead of dipping into the slow zones again.

So yeah, my summary: Murderbot is okay, sometimes funny, sometimes dull, started off strong, stumbled a bit, but still worth watching. Not the best show of 2025, but not a waste of time either. And hey, if you like robots being moody about humans, this is definitely for you.
