Weapons is one of those films that has some great moments but doesn’t always work as a whole. The story is about a group of kids who all disappear in the middle of the night, except for one. From there the film mixes mystery, horror and drama and sometimes it feels a little messy.

What really saves it is Amy Madigan as Gladys. She’s the most memorable part of the film. Whenever she is on screen, the film comes alive. Her performance is the kind that makes you keep watching even if other parts are slow.

The film also has some really good scenes like the chasing scene with Benedict Wong the kind that make you hold your breath and the atmosphere feels scary in the right way. The music and visuals build a lot of tension. But not all of it lands. Some parts are too long, and the ending doesn’t fully pay off. A lot of the other characters feel flat compared to Gladys.

In the end, Weapons is okay, not great. It has high points and a strong lead performance, but it’s not the kind of film that will stay with you. If you like horror with weird characters and creepy vibes, it’s worth a watch!
